Hip Hop News - Drive-By Attempt on Rick Ross

Rick-Ross-at-Dwyane-Wade-30th-Birthday-Party

Around 5am this morning, after leaving his own birthday party at (where he celebrated with Diddy, his MMG family and others) Miami Hot Spot, LIV, Rick Ross was riding in the passenger seat of his Rolls Royce in Ft. Lauderdale when someone opened fire on the vehicle! According to the Huffington Post after his vehicle was sprayed with bullets, the Rolls crashed into a nearby apartment building around the busy Los Olas Avenue.

According to reports, police are still on the scene investigating. The manager of a nearby restaurant confirmed the car was shot at, and so was his restaurant. Witnesses say there were up to 15 shots fired.

Ricky is believed to still be on the scene, inside said restaurant speaking to police. No word on if he suffered any injuries.

NBC Miami confirms that the shots indeed came from another vehicle, which signals this was a drive by. No suspects have been named.

I could only imagine the Deja Vu Diddy felt when he heard the news, especially since he just left Ross.

This makes me so nervous. I just don’t understand. I look at it as just music, and maybe I don’t know enough, but when violence manifest itself from the music to the physical form, I just don’t understand why this route is an option.

We will update as the Story develops…

DJango Unchained Action Figures

Photobucket

Along the same lines as other profitable action flicks, the Weinstein company has released a line of action figures associated with its hit Django Unchained.

The eight-inch action figures are available on Amazon.com and come "...with tailored clothing, weaponry, and accessories in the likeness of characters played by Foxx, Kerry Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Leonardo DiCaprio, James Remar and Christoph Waltz."

Noted black film critic Tim Gordon spoke to The Daily Beast about the dolls and the film saying, “There were a lot of things that were done for Django that would’ve never been done for Inglourious Basterds … but people don’t speak up. People have gotten so -- I don’t know if the word is comfortable or naïve. We just want to go along to get along and it’s very frustrating.”

While we all agree that the company should be able to profit from the success of the flick, are we ok with "slavery" being turned into a marketable commodity....again? Given, the movie was not a documentary or truly historical depiction of slavery as it was a Hollywood film for entertainment. But didn't the film portray pretty true points about slavery...and therefore the action figures could be taken as a glorification of what went down?

Also, Amazon doesn't go into detail about the accessories but we wonder if either character comes with a "whip." And how would we feel about that?

Speak on it....are the dolls an example of marketing going too far?

Michael Jackson's Estate Writes $55,000 Check to ‘Thriller’ co-star Ola Ray

0510-ola-ray-thriller-3
Via TMZ:

$55,000 … that’s how much it took for the chick from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” music video to call a truce in her war with the MJ estate … TMZ has learned.

Ola Ray settled her lawsuit with the estate earlier this year, and now we know what for … $55,000 to Ola … and $20,000 to her lawyer.

Ola originally filed the suit against MJ and his production company in May 2009 — a month before Jackson passed away — claiming breach of contract. Ola said she was still owed a massive chunk of the “Thriller” profits … nearly 30 years after it was released.

The director of the music video John Landis — who filed a similar lawsuit against the estate — has also settled … but he wanted in excess of $2 million, so we’re guessing he got a little more than Ola.
WOW.......
