Obama Looking To Jay-Z For Campaign Help

As President Obama nears re-election time, his camp behind his 2008 election campaign is trying to figure out how to capture the youth and minority vote and it looks like they’ve found an answer: Jay-Z. Deputy White House Press Secretary William Burton told the New York Post “I can’t believe you’ve finally heard the chatter about him replacing Larry Summers.” The key word in this statement is “chatter”. No official statement has been made saying Jay is replacing anyone or doing anything related to Obama. “In all seriousness, keep in mind he was pretty active during the 2008 election, so I don’t think it’d surprise anyone that he would be involved again. But it’s a little premature” he says.

I think it’s way to early to suggest anything. There were several people who were also active during Obama’s election campaign back in 2008, but does that mean they’re going to replace Larry Summers? I doubt it. Obama’s camp will do what they deem is necessary to capture the vote of the young people and whether it involves a high-profile celebrity like Jay-Z, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Big Boi, Keri Hilson Surprise Thousands Of Students In Chicago

(AllHipHop News) Atlanta natives Big Boi and Keri Hilson surprised 1000 high school students today (October 21st) in Chicago, Illinois.

The superstar rapper and singer, along with MTV News correspondent Tim Kash, spoke to the elated students as part of the Get Schooled National Challenge and Tour.

The purpose of the tour is to engage students and encourage them to improve their high school graduation rates, with the goal of increasing college completion rates.

"Before I started doing music, I was actually going to school to study child psychology, but, when I was in 11th grade, we went platinum," Big Boi revealed. "But I still finished and graduated with honors…you need that."

During the Youth Summit, Big Boi, Keri Hilson and Tim Kash engaged students in a conversation about the challenges they face as students, while encouraging the students to achieve their educational goals.

Keri Hilson also performed her newest single "Pretty Girl Rock" during the Youth Summit.

"I juggled a lot in high school," said Keri Hilson, who revealed that that she was co-captain of her high school basketball team, in addition to participating in theater.
"I had to learn balance," said Hilson. "I had to learn to prioritize my time. I think that is the key to making it through high school in life in general, is knowing what's important. attacking that and executing everything."

Kanye West on Ellen

Kanye West appeared on the ‘The Ellen Degeneres Show’ today to promote his “Runaway” 40-minute movie, which he premiered in LA last night.

Kanye, who contemplated suicide after his mother died, told Ellen that he moved overseas on the advice of rapper Mos Def following the Taylor Swift/ VMAs gaffe last year.

He said when he returned to the states from his self-imposed exile, he lived in Hawaii for 6 months to focus on his music.

Kanye told Ellen that as a result of the backlash he would never sit in the audience at an awards show again.

“Just for your whole world to completely crash off of a.. a moment of sincerity or alcohol… or whatever it is,” said Kanye.

“Those don’t usually go together,” said Ellen as her audience chuckled. “Usually the alcohol rules out the sincerity part.”

T.I. TO GO BACK TO JAIL FOR 11 MONTHS

ATLANTA – A federal judge revoked rapper T.I.'s probation Friday and ordered him back to prison for 11 months.

The Atlanta native, whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., was in federal court following his arrest last month in Los Angeles on suspicion of drug possession. He was on probation after serving 10 months behind bars on federal weapons charges.

"I think Mr. Harris had had about the limit of second chances," U.S. District Court Judge Charles Pannell Jr. said, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

During the hearing, T.I. begged Pannell not to send him back to prison, saying he needed to get help for drug addiction. He told the judge he "screwed up" and pleaded for mercy.

"I want drugs out of my life. If I can get the treatment and counseling I need ... I can beat this," T.I. told the judge, according to U.S. attorney spokesman Patrick Crosby. "I need help. For me, my mother, my kids, I need the court to give me mercy."

The Associated Press was relying on information from the spokesman because the judge closed the courtroom after it was filled and several media outlets including AP were not allowed in.

Pannell wasn't swayed by the rapper's plea.

The judge had said T.I.'s sentence was an "experiment" he hoped to replicate if it worked. The rapper was allowed to stay out of prison while performing 1,000 hours of community service, mostly talking with schoolchildren about the dangers of gangs, drugs and violence.

"You certainly dumped a lot of smut on the whole experiment," Pannell told T.I.

After the hearing, U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates said she was disappointed with T.I.

"We had hoped that this would be a new, innovative opportunity," she said. "We're not giving up on Mr. Harris, but ... if you veer off the road of redemption, there are consequences."

The Grammy Award-winning artist walked out of court with family and friends, leaving the building through a back exit without speaking to reporters.

Yates said the rapper is expected to surrender voluntarily to authorities Nov. 1.

As a condition of T.I.'s release earlier this year, he was ordered not to commit another federal, state or local crime while on supervised release, or to illegally possess a controlled substance. He was also told to take at least three drug tests after his release and to participate in a drug and alcohol treatment program.

"While he was telling kids to obey the law, he was breaking it," Yates told the judge Friday, according to Crosby. "There has to be a significant consequence for undermining the (plea) agreement."

Yates urged the judge to consider a sentence of two years in prison. She said T.I. submitted diluted urine samples and told his probation officer he had used ecstasy at least three times since leaving prison.

T.I's attorneys argued that after reviewing nearly 250 cases with similar charges, none of those people were put back behind bars for violating probation, Crosby said. Additionally, the attorneys told the judge that Harris was addicted to drugs and has attempted to turn his life around since leaving prison.

Earlier this week, Atlanta police said T.I. helped them talked a suicidal man down from a skyscraper. The rapper heard about the man on the radio and drove over to see if he could help.

The man agreed to come down from the 22-story building in exchange for a few minutes with the rapper, authorities said. They added he recorded a cell phone video of himself that was shown to the man by rescue workers to prove he was really there.

T.I. rejected suggestions that his intervention was a stunt to gain advance favor with the court.

Atlanta Police Department spokesman Officer James Polite testified at Friday's hearing about being present when T.I. lent his assistance.

"We believed it was genuine," Polite said of Harris' offer to help. "He gave words of encouragement and was an intricate part of having that situation safely and quickly resolved."

T.I. Talks Suicidal Man from Jumping from Building

TI Saves The Day In Sucide Attempt In Atlanta, GA from Gyant UnpluggedTV on Vimeo.

T.I. stepped in to help police negotiators talk a young man out of jumping to his death from an Atlanta skyscraper yesterday afternoon. In his own words, T.I. tells BET.com how it all went down.

“I was in my car, headed to my video shoot and I cut the radio on, which is unusual 'cause I mostly listen to my iPod or a CD when I’m driving. Breaking news comes on about a 22-year old Black man on top of a building on Peachtree. They say he said he’s tired of living and wants to end it.

"Something in my heart tells me to go down there. I’m thinking, 'what can I do to help?' The building is where V103 is at so I start calling people from the radio station who work there, Ryan Cameron, asking them to tell dude I want to talk to him. Everyone is like, 'I don’t know if you can help.'

"I go down there, park my car, walk up to the police officers and tell them I would like to help resolve this. They’re all like, 'we don’t know what you can do,' but they went to the negotiator and told her. She asked what I was willing to do and I asked what I could do, what would be beneficial? At this point, they let the young man know I’m downstairs and want to speak to him.

"Officer Polite suggests doing a video message to assure the young man I’m there. I say on the video that it’s not that bad, how it’s gonna be better, that I’m willing to help him get better, but you got to help me help you.

"When he came down, I was at the elevator to greet him. I spoke first. He was kind of, not distraught, but just looked tired. I asked what’s wrong and he shook his head. I said, 'it’s never as bad as it seems and if you know me, know what I’ve been through, you know I know it.' We spoke for about four to five minutes, but I did most of the talking. He mostly shook his head, said a lot with his facial expressions, demeanor and sighed a lot of deep breaths. I said, 'you did the right thing, you took the right step.' Then they escorted him away. We didn’t exchange info, but I’m gonna try to find him, see what’s up.

"I’m aware some people are saying this was a publicity stunt. That’s preposterous. People refuse to acknowledge that God has a purpose for all people. Fate and destiny, all these things, they put us where we’re supposed to be. This was not a coincidence. I didn’t wake up in the morning knowing this was going to happen. This wasn’t on my list of things to do today.

"If anything, I’ve known it before, felt it before, but in your darkest hours you lose sight of the fact that you can help people. This isn’t out of the norm for me to go out of my way to help people, regardless of my circumstances. That isn’t out of character for me, but I still have a hard time taking any credit for this. It was God’s work, God’s plan, I just happened to show up at the right time.”

Macy Gray / Bobby Brown Collab "Real Love"

This is pretty funny....

WOW.... What do you think about this one?

It seems that no one at the Miami Dade Police Department reads Forbes magazine. If they did they would have immediately recognized one of the men on the cover, quarter-of-a-billionaire rap mogul Jay Z, as the gang banger illustrated on the front page of their website.

Once word began to spread, the police quickly removed the graphics, according to Miami New Times. There was no comment or explanation forthcoming from the police, according to Karen Civil.

Of course the Miami Dade Police knew who Jay Z was. We’re sure they deliberately used his images to portray a gang banger, because after all, didn’t Warren Buffet say the children can learn from Jay Z? Doesn’t Jigga continue to glorify his former drug dealing lifestyle in his songs?

This goes to prove that it doesn’t matter how many zeros Jay Z has in his portfolio, or how many Armani suits he has hanging in his closet, he will always be just another gang banger to law enforcement.
