"Rapper Ja Rule was sentenced to two years in prison on Monday after pleading guilty to the illegal possession of a firearm.
The 34-year-old chose to plead guilty rather than go to trial, where he would have faced up to seven years in jail if found guilty.
And according to the Associated Press the rapper, real name Jeffrey Atkins, is likely to spend 16 months in prison followed by 18 months' probation.
The charges are the result of a July 2007 incident where police found a semiautomatic .40-calibre pistol in the back seat of Ja Rule's luxury car."
